OBJECTIVE:

To offer guidance to medical staff on:

Recording clinical observations.
Recognising normal variations and identifying when they change, indicating worsening symptoms or conditions.
Understanding the physiological and anatomical basis for these variations.

CLINICAL OBSERVATIONS:

Clinical observations might encompass:

Estimating hemoglobin-oxygen saturation (spo2, pulse oximetry)
Oxygen delivery
Respiratory rate (rr)
Signs of respiratory distress
Heart/pulse rate (hr/pr)
Blood pressure (bp) – systolic, diastolic, and mean
Temperature
Level of consciousness
Pain assessment
In specific clinical scenarios, additional observations (e.g., neurological or neurovascular observations) may be necessary.
